What’s the difference between SIL 2 and PL d?
They come from different standards — SIL (IEC 61508 / 62061) and PL (ISO 13849) — but they overlap. At a high level, PL d roughly corresponds to SIL 2 for many machinery control functions. The right target still depends on your risk assessment, so treat this as orientation, not a determination.
